The Central Catholic Baseball program has a strong tradition and is well respected in the W.P.I.A.L. and the Pittsburgh area. The program has experienced success by participating in the W.P.I.A.L. playoffs the past three seasons. This success can be directly contributed to our fall and winter workouts. These workouts give players not participating in other sports a chance to better improve their baseball skills. The fundamentals of hitting, pitching, and fielding are taught and emphasized by the coaching staff during these workouts. Weight training is also incorporated starting in the winter and lasting throughout the entire season. The conditioning program is the main focus right before the start of the season and is very important to make sure every player is in his top playing shape for the upcoming season. The use of our outdoor batting cage, pitching mounds, and indoor facilities have helped enormously with instructing, developing, and maintaining proper techniques and skills for success.
Teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship, along with a winning attitude, are constant themes in the program. We consider our program to be one of the best offered not only at Central Catholic in terms of success and student participation, but in the W.P.I.A.L. as well. The Varsity and Junior Varsity play in the very competitive Section 4 of the W.P.I.A.L. Quad A. Each team plays a 20 game schedule made up of the top teams in the area such as North Allegheny, Shaler, and Upper St. Clair. On top of the 20 game schedule, the Varsity baseball team goes on an annual spring training trip. Our freshman team participates in one of the most competitive junior leagues in the area and also plays a very competitive 20 game schedule. Home games are played after school at 4:00 and on a few Saturdays at noon. Varsity and Junior Varsity home games are played at Highland Park Field, formerly Leech Farm Field; at the Highland VA Hospital Complex along Washington Blvd. Our Freshman team plays their home games at Sunnyside Field in Morningside. Overall, the program offers each player an opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of baseball.
